Pensioner in knife terror

A man in his 80s was threatened with a knife by a burglar who got into his home in Ludlow and then made off with a small amount of change.The elderly man was left shaken after the intruder entered his home in Churchill Close and threatened him with a knife, before making off with a small amount of change.

The incident happened last night at about 10pm.

Police spokesman Richard Ewels said: “The offender threatened the victim, who is in his 80s, with a serrated knife and demanded money from him.

“When the victim handed over a bag of small change amounting to £3 or £4, the offender made off. The man then raised the alarm.”

Mr Ewels said an extensive search was carried out by officers but the offender not found.

He is described as being in his teens or early 20s with dark eyebrows and was wearing a hooded top. The knife was believed to be similar to a dinner knife and had a wooden handle.

Constable Will Quan, who is investigating the incident, appealed for anyone who saw anyone suspicious in the area at the time or has any information to contact police on 08457 444888.

He said: “The victim, although not physically injured, was left extremely frightened and shaken by the attack.

“I would urge anyone who knows the identity of this offender or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area to please contact police as a matter of urgency. House to house enquiries are being carried out in the area.”
