Bus driver Peter Wright has proved he is on the right road by winning the latest Shropshire Star’s Fantasy Football manager of the month competition.
Peter, 53, of Chockleys Meadow, Leegomery, Telford, received a cheque for £100, courtesy of game sponsor Wickes, after topping the table in September.
His team, called “Got 2 b in it 2 win it!!”, amassed 87 points during the month, beating more than 2,600 rivals to the top spot.
His team of Premier League stars is made up of Jose Reina and Steve Finnan from Liverpool, Joleon Lescott of Everton, Manchester United duo Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry, Charles N’Zogbia of Newcastle, Arsenal pair Cesc Fabregas and Kolo Toure, and a front two of Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov and Bolton’s Nicolas Anelka.
Manchester United fan Peter, who drives buses for Telford & Wrekin Council, only joined the game on August 28, two weeks after other Shropshire Star players started scoring.
“My two sons signed up from the start but I haven’t been in it for very long,” he said. “So I was really pleased to overtake them and win the manager of the month prize.
“Being a Manchester United fan, I built my team around Vidic and Evra. I picked defenders from the top four clubs and then went for attacking players who I thought could score.”
Peter said he had never entered a fantasy football game before he joined the Shropshire Star competition. “I thought I would have a go being as it was free to enter.”
