Site of old surgery

1960s - the long-demolished doctors’ surgery in Stafford Road, Oakengates

Here is the long-demolished doctors’ surgery in Stafford Road, Oakengates - the site of a local history exhibition being held tomorrow (October 20).

How can that be so? John Brown, of North East Telford Studies group, explains: “The photo shows the doctors’ surgery in Stafford Road and the building next door, which was for a time the local council office.

“Both have now gone and have been replaced by the Oakengates United Reformed Church where NETS will be holding our annual history exhibition tomorrow from 10am to 4pm.

“The displays will include St Georges in the past, the Lilleshall Company, local customs, brass bands, the first telephones in Oakengates, local photographers, and much more.”

The photo looks as if it dates from the 1960s.

Are there any other old photos of buildings prior to redevelopment of the area. I am looking for one of the old girls school, Belle Vue House, where my family lived from 1939 up to 1951. We are now living in Norfolk and it was not possible to visit the display.
