Pubs chain is sold for millions

armoury-interior.jpgThe owners of an award-winning pub chain which operates in Shropshire and its borders have sold their business in a £26 million-plus deal with the company behind Frankie & Benny’s and Garfunkel’s.

Brunning & Price, which was voted 2007 Pub Group of the Year by the Good Pub Guide, operates 14 pub restaurants in the country, including The Armoury in Shrewsbury, The Fox at Chetwynd Aston, near Newport, The Corn Mill at Llangollen, The Combermere Arms at Burleydam, near Whitchurch and the Cross Foxes at Erbistock, also near Whitchurch.

The Restaurant Group said the business will sit well alongside its Blubeckers operation, a pub restaurant business it acquired in 2005.

Chester-based Brunning & Price dates back to 1981, when former advertising boss Jerry Brunning bought the freehold of the Bell Inn at Outwood, a small village in Surrey.

Fair play to the owners, but the Armoury in Shrewsbury is over priced and the beer quality has a lot to be desired, sometimes hazy short measured and overpriced, but with attractive staff there is a lot of work to do.
