Memories of open-air swim fun

nostalgia-phoenix-school-86.jpg

Come in, the water’s lovely. Pupils at Phoenix School, Dawley, used to be able to enjoy a rarity among Shropshire schools - an outdoor swimming pool.

This picture was taken on June 20, 1986, and the original caption was: “These pupils from the Phoenix School, Dawley, certainly know how to stay cool in the warm weather.

“There’s nothing like a dip in the school’s open-air swimming pool after a stuffy morning in the classroom.”

No longer though. The pool was filled in a while ago.
