A Shropshire footballer who launched a violent attack on another player has been banned from the pitch for five years and fined.
Scott Morgan was playing for Telford Sunday League side AFC White Horse when he attacked a Duke of York Trench FC player in a pre-season friendly held on July 22.
The assault was reported to the county’s Football Association and Morgan was immediately suspended.
He was summoned to attend a disciplinary hearing yesterday, but failed to turn up.
In his absence he was banned for five years and fined £300.
The victim is believed to have suffered facial injuries in the attack, according to the referee.
Neil Sambrook, Shropshire Football Association spokesman, said: “This was a particularly despicable assault and its viciousness is reflected in the severity of the punishment.
“There is no place whatsoever for conduct of this nature and the Shropshire FA has no qualms about placing lengthy suspensions on players guilty of serious misconduct.
“Mr Morgan is suspended from all football, both five and 11-a-side for five years, with absolutely no review,” he said.
Mr Sambrook added that he believed the Madeley-based team had not had any connection with Morgan since the attack took place.

If, for example, Christiano Ronaldo committed exactly the same offence, would he get a FIVE YEAR ban? I’m not convinced that he would. Without knowing anything about the incident this punishment seems a little harsh!
From what i have read I dont think the punishment is harsh at all, whos to say he wont do it again. Plus you dont need players like that on the pitch.

Psycho. I would ban him for life not for 5 years. I noticed someone put would C Ronaldo get banned like this, who cares. There is no place in the game for him. I mean the game was a friendly, you need fighters & scrappers in a team but not with fists.
