Baker’s in contention

Shropshire golfer Peter Baker has taken another small step to regaining his European Tour card.

The former Lilleshall Hall man carded a six-under-par 64 in the opening round of the Open A.G.F Allianz Côtes D’Armor Bretagne in France yesterday on the Challenge Tour.

That left him in second place and in a strong position to push for victory as he attempts to break into the top 20 on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit - four events remain including this one - and win back his full card.

“I played well and putted particularly well,” he said. “That was the difference as I took my chances out there.

“I am in the boiling pot in 23rd place and I’m looking forward to the run in. I have been playing well for a while and I just need to keep putting well.

“I am just going to play my own game and, if I play well, I should be okay.”
