Indoor bowls centre to open

Shrewsbury’s long-awaited new £1.6 million indoor bowls centre is due to open for the first time on November 5, it has been revealed.

Work on the centre is “going well” and it is due to be completed on November 2, with play starting three days later, according to a report to councillors.

The modern six-rink indoor bowls centre is the final phase of the town’s sports village on Sundorne Road.

Currently 280 people have signed up with the indoor bowls club, closing in on the first year target of 300.

Construction on the new centre started with a sod-cutting ceremony in April with the hall featuring a number of facilities including changing accommodation and a social area with bar and kitchen to allow the facility to build on community inclusion.

The centre will also have a 37-space car park of its own.

The indoor bowls centre will give residents exercise, new friends and a new lo-cost hobby, no experience nececary go along and have a go. We did as novices when Bromsgrove opened in ‘93 now I manage the competitive mens team and my wife plays for England Ladies and we are building a kids U12, U16 and U21 squad now so its all ages and great fun
