Here’s a quintessential Shrewsbury scene, but from many years ago. With the River Severn looking like a millpond, two Salopians have taken to the water for a gentle row.
How often do you see that nowadays?
In the distance Shrewsbury School looks out over the scene. This photo was e-mailed in to us by Bob Hanley of Telford. It is undated, but perhaps from the Edwardian period.

What a lovely scene. It’s hardly changed a bit. This is one of my favourite places in Shrewsbury.
I wonder how long Shrewsbury can hang on to it’s uniquely beautiful charactor, given the government’s plans to concrete over the county with 50,000 new homes.

Actually it’s not that uncommon to see people enjoying themselves in small craft on the Severn in Shrewsbury. You only have to go to Frankwell Quay, with the slipway and marina there, during the summer to witness pleasure boating taking place.
as a ex strettonion living in bedford it was lovely to see the severn even if it was victorian times
