Three wheels and a wedding

A Shropshire couple are set to tie the knot part way through a charity drive in their “Del Boy” van.

Celia Pritchard and Paul Devey, of Telford, will join other Reliant vehicles on the drive to mark the 50th anniversary of the Reliant Owners Club.

The pair, both aged 50, will visit Gretna Green on the way to get married in their yellow three-wheeler.

Celia and Paul, who is chairman of the Telford branch of the Reliant Owners Club, will be working over the next few months to get the 1971 Reliant Regal van ready for the marathon two-week journey in August.

Celia, of Woodrows, Woodside, said: “We are hoping for 50 cars from the entire country. We were going to get married anyway. We talked about how it would be a nice idea as we are going near to Gretna Green on the run to stop off and get married.

“They are all going to join us. I think it will be quite a sight.”

The pair both work for Telford & Wrekin red buses, which transport people with learning difficulties around the borough.

During the trip the Reliants will also be going to Wick. The harbour at Wick was built in 1811 by Thomas Telford using money confiscated from Jacobite chiefs during the failed revolution.

The couple are planning to raise sponsorship for a sensory room at a social care day centre in Halesfield.
