A striking photograph of a dog being walked in the morning light at a Shropshire park has won the regional heat of a national competition.
Danny Beath captured the image at the Quarry Park in Shrewsbury after being inspired by the light shining through the trees in February.
The photograph named Morning Walk has won the West Midlands section of the Postcards from the Park competition launched in June by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund.
Mr Beath, from Shrewsbury, said: “I’m delighted to have won in this competition. I spend a lot of time in Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park, mostly to find peace and tranquillity and commune with Mother Nature. I took this photo in February and what inspired me was the special light.”
Judges said they were impressed by the photograph as they felt it captured why people loved to visit their local park.
Mike McCartney, the main judge, said: “This competition has really proved how popular parks are. I have been so impressed by the standard of entries and Danny Beath’s photo captures the very essence of why so many people love their local park.”
The competition encouraged hundreds of people across the UK to visit their park during the summer to take a photograph.
