asda_logo.gifA robber attacked a security guard as he delivered money to a Telford store, snatching a bag containing thousands of pounds. The security guard was approached from behind and pushed to the ground as he began to transfer money from the van at the back of Asda in Donnington Wood.

Police today appealed for witnesses to the robbery on Wednesday at about 1.15pm.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “As one of the security guards began to transfer money from the van, he was approached from behind and pushed to the floor. He believes the offender was a white male wearing dark clothing.

“The offender then wrestled a grey bag from the security guard and made off down a small path. The security guard was not seriously injured but is extremely shaken up by the incident.

“The bag that was stolen contained a large amount of money, believed to be a five-figure sum. It is thought that the offender climbed into a vehicle – possibly blue in colour – which was waiting for him on a slip road to the rear of the supermarket.”

He added: “Officers are currently studying CCTV footage obtained from the store.”

An Asda spokeswoman said the robbery happened as a security company was delivering money to the cashpoints.

Anyone who believes they may have information about this incident, is asked to contact Malinsgate Police Station on 08457 444888.

I thought that police were no following cash security vehicles to prevent this from happening. Failing that, why can’t stores and banks design a covered & secure area for cash collections/deposits to take place in. But then again if these moron’s want money, they will find a way regardless i guess

Totally agree with you Rob. Hope the bag had dye packs in it because that would serve the idiot right to get covered in the stuff from head to toe.

Totally agree Suzanne but I’ve heard that dye is useless because the police can’t use it as evidence. What is needed is a dna type fingerprint in it as well so that it can be traced. Too sci-fi I suppose…?
