Work will soon begin on a temporary road in the Ironbridge Gorge after a battle by residents and businesses saw hundreds sign a petition.
Plans for the road at Lloyds Head were approved yesterday and Telford & Wrekin Council today said work could begin as soon as next month.
The original road was closed between the Black Swan and the Crossing Gate in April when it buckled from ground movement.
Businesses and residents said the road was a “lifeline” to Jackfield.
They collected 300 signatures in favour of a replacement road and say they have lost custom and profits.
At yesterday’s plans board meeting proposals to realign a road and construct retaining structures were agreed.
David Morgan, council spokesman, today said work would begin either next month or in October.
