Station staff study fire damage

Whittington High Level Station in 1958
Studying the damage after a fire at Whittington High Level Station in 1958 are, from left, Mr Andrews (stationmaster), Michael Morris (signalman in the signal box at Whittington Low Level Station), and S Lawson (porter).

This picture was loaned to us by Mrs Joy Berwick, of Whittington, who says it was loaned to her by her brother Michael Morris of Chirk, who is in the picture.

“He was in the signal box at Whittington Low Level. There were two stations at Whittington at the time. One was High Level, and one was Low Level.”

It’s a shame smaller stations like Whittington don’t re-open, surely there’s a demand for it!?
