A van driver had a lucky escape today when yobs tied a rope across a Telford road causing him to crash. The thick rope was tied between two lamp posts on either side of the Lawley to Dawley by-pass at 5am.
A driver hit the rope and then swerved into roadside cones. He was not hurt, but called the police.
Officers searched the area and found three male youths who were arrested. They remain in custody at Malinsgate Police Station today.
They were arrested near to Lawley Primary School, where 18 windows were smashed overnight.
Spokesman Chris Amm-onds said that due to the proximity of the incidents, officers were linking them.
Officers said the rope incident could have been more serious if a different kind of vehicle, such as a motorcycle, had been involved.
Mr Ammonds said: “The rope incident was despicable and could have had far more serious consequences had it been a motorcycle involved.
“Three youths arrested near to Lawley Primary School remain in police custody and are being questioned by officers.
“It was fortunate the driver did not suffer any injuries and only drove into the cones rather than any other vehicles.”
The rope was tied across the road at about head height.
Anybody with information about either of the two incidents is asked to call police on 08457 444 888.

typical telford !!!!
Telford again, typical
A rope across the road at head height. So presumably they will be charged with attempted murder? No, thought not. They won’t be charged with anything and they will do it again.
As a motorcyclist in that area I can think of a much better use for that rope. Mindless idiots.
“Typical Telford” - why is it typical? Crime does not just occur in Telford - watch the national news! Is this Dotty’s favourite comment?
Where do you live then Dotty?.
Not in Telford one assumes due to the snipes at the two incidents reported today.
Yes these incidents are plain stupidity on the part of the offenders but not EVERYONE in our town is like that.
I have lived in Telford all of my life & have heard all of the japes & digs over the years.
There are areas of this town that I wouldn’t like to live & that is common in most parts of the UK I can imagine.
Crime is a national problem & not just ,as you seem to see it, in Telford.
Do do you just look for excuses to make sweeping generalisations ?
Dotty seems very dotty.
Just typical Shrewsury snoberry from the aptly-named Dotty I suspect.
That’ll be the Shrewsbury where they’ve just fished some poor young dead bloke out of the river won’t it, or where, as I recall, last year the police had to move in to close down a long-standing crack den. Hmmmm…nice place!
Here Here Spud, i too grew up in Telford on Woodside which has always had a reputation for being a bad estate, but i grew up fine. I’m currently living away from the area with my job and am now living in Portsmouth. Dotty you should live down here then you’d experience how bad things can get with asbos being dished out left right and centre
dotty is quite right!!! have u ever been to telford???? things like this always happens there!!! dont see ropes tied to trees in shrewsbury do we!!!
Whats some poor kid drowning while swimming in the river got to do with making Shrewsbury rough?
Typical uneducated Telford comment!
Dotty-what did you say to me the other day-something along the lines of-shut up what a stupid comment-hmmmmm….. crime happens everywhere, you need to come back into the real world
ive lived in shrewsbury and telford and seen far worse things in shrewsbury! believe it or not dotty….
There have been some rather nasty headlines from Shrewsbury recently as there have from all over the country. Sticking your head in the sand and feeling smug thinking where you live is perfect is just stupid. One day you will open your front door and suddenly see what everyone else can………
No i’m not from Shrewsbury. But it is a nicer place than Telford.
Who cares where this incident happened, it should not have happened at all. If anyone saw CSI Miami the other night they will know exactly what can happen if some idiot puts some sort of rope or wire across a road at head height - decapitation. Those kids are lucky that the incident wasnt serious. Where is the punishment for these youngsters
Dotty,
I think you have a problem and probably no friends, certainly not in Telford.
It must be great to be so popular, ooh i wish i was you.
Dotty - you’re right about Telford - two women murdered in a brothel, a policeman shot in broad daylight, a crackhouse being shut down…oh no, that was Salop wasn’t it?
(I’m Shropshire born and bred, and have relatives in Salop, but sometimes people talk such a load of tripe.)
Its not just Telford that is getting bad, all the gun/knife and other violent crimes that are happening is getting out of control, personally I dont think the ASBO’s are working, there not afraid to get them and I think thats the problem! There is no respect for anyone anymore, Police etc have brushed it under the carpet for too long now look at the big mess that has mounted up!
HA HA, WELL SAID WENDY
Dotty appears to be something of a FLAMER. Don’t rise to her bait and she might go out.
Crickey, where has all the venom come from about Telford?
Anyone with half a brain will realise that crime happens all over the country, not just Telford.
Rhys, shot in the neck, was from Liverpool, not Telford, the two women who were murdered in Frankwell, were from Wolverhampton and Wales respectively, not Telford, the shooting of the police officer occured in Shrewsbury, not Telford. A man was shot in a Shrewsbury nighclub, not Telford, can you see where I am heading with this one?
Dotty, you really must stop generalising about people from Telford. We are educated and have the same social problems and ills as probably every other town in this country. I would love to know where you are living as it must be so wonderful living in a part of the country with such low level crimes and anti-scoial behaviour!
GARY AN DOTTY SUCKING UP TO EACH OTHER AGAIN!!
Where do you live Dotty ?
come on give us a clue about your
perfect location.
Rob, Telford: “Dotty - you’re right about Telford - two women murdered in a brothel, a policeman shot in broad daylight, a crackhouse being shut down…oh no, that was Salop wasn’t it?” ‘Salop’ was the old name for SHROPSHIRE not SHREWSBURY.
telford is ace tho innit u cans get well cheep cider form the offy
dotty, you are pathetic
Dotty - your a cloned sheep how can you write on this website?
um…quite easily actually. Would you like some help lenny? You seem to have difficulty with your spelling and grammar. You’re not from Telford are you?

Dotty (wherever you’re from) - trust me, when I was a lad people always referred to Shrewsbury as “Salop” or “Town”, but of course, it’s probably gone a bit upmarket these days compared with Telford……
everywhere has crime you just hear about it more cos your all on this site so often, cant believe your arguing over whos town has the worse crime rate… how immature…
Dotty, salop has always been slang for shrewbury and shropshire, and lets be fair its always rubbed you lot up,that’s why we do it even before Telford existed. As most above have said crime is rife in this country not just Telford, I’m also shropshire born and bread, and we havent always been called Telford so Dotty get over yourself.

What intelligent conversation from these two people! As a shropshire born and bred individual I am very proud of my native County and native town of Telford. It’s not 100% but far superior to many places that seem to attract contributors like the two quoted above. Telford has many attractive features and an excellent Town Centre with more great facilities to come! Come on folks open your eyes to the great world we live in because WHEREVER YOU LIVE you pass through it for a very short time.
