Twelve people, including eight young children, had to be treated by paramedics after a man used CS spray during a fight outside a Shropshire ice rink.Theye were injured as they walked towards Telford Ice Rink, where a gang of people had been involved in a fight shortly before 4pm yesterday. One of the men sprayed another man with the substance, before fleeing the scene.
The attacker was among a gang of up to 16 people believed to have travelled from the West Midlands.
People walking towards the ice rink in St Quentin Gate, Telford Town Centre, suffered painful and watery eyes.
Paramedics were sent to treat the CS gas victims. Police were also called but no arrests were made.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: “When crews arrived they were told there had been an incident involving two adults.
“One man was treated for bruising to the head, but did not require hospital treatment.”
Mr Macgregor said other people became ill as they walked towards the rink.
“On assessment, the three adults and eight children, aged about eight to 12, were found to have irritation consistent with a substance such as, but not necessarily, CS gas,” he said.
“All 11 were treated at the scene and given advice but were not badly enough affected to require hospital treatment and all went home.”
Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said between 12 and 16 people, aged 16-18, were involved.
“There was an altercation where one of the males in the group sprayed another male with a substance believed to be CS gas,” he said. “No arrests have been made at this stage, but we are still appealing for witnesses.”
“The offender who sprayed the substance left the scene in a white van, possibly a minibus. The group of people are believed to have travelled from the West Midlands.”
David Morgan, of Telford & Wrekin Council, which operates the rink said: “Some customers who were on their way into the ice rink suffered some effects and were treated at the ice rink by paramedics. They did not require hospital treatment.”

what an idiot!
What is wrong with people these days!!!!!!!
Typical of Telford, really
Never mind, all will be well if the council get their way and build a new Ice Rink on the Arena site in the Town Park!
And I thought it was chemical warfare! I’m sure they’ll recover. It’s character building.
No dotty.
It’s typical of most places these days.
If you’d read the story the perpetrators seemingly travelled in from the West Midlands.
There are anti social idiots everywhere these days.
I don’t get the mentality…everyone just wants to hurt everyone else these days! Why’s there so much agression???
Presume Dotty is from Shrewsbury!….
Not typical Telford but typical of the youth today. What is the world coming to.
I agree with spudgun and Dotty your sort of remark is offensive and provocative.I dont think there is a town anywhere that is trouble free.
i think pauline is on to something there!
something has to be done about this yob culture in telford! sooner rather than later
Even more reasons to let people carry tazars!
oh my god, dotty making a fool out of herself again
GARY GOLFT-YOB CULTURE IN TELFORD?! YOU CLEARLY NEVER WATCH THE NEWS, YOB CULTURE IS EVERYWHERE!! ITS SMALL MINDED PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND DOTTY THAT WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT!
R U AND DOTTY MARRIED OR SOMETHING, BOTH BITTER AND TWISTED
no government of any colour or party will put this right…we live in cloud cuckoo land if we think so. The fabric of society - family life is crumbling! i.e. what is happening in the four walls of home - and we all have a responsibility for putting that right. Until we do then nothing will change.
I can’t believe how bad the Yob culture has got in Telford. Someone will have their eye out if this behaviour continues.
Well should be greatful it was CS spray and not another stabbing!
telford is the muts nuts innit
I agree with the sentiments expressed by most, this is just another disgusting example of the lawlessness and lack of respect in our society.
I must respond however to ‘observer’ who claims that no government of any party would put the situattion right. The British National Party is the one party with the courage to tackle issues like crime without constraints of political correctness.
Unless people are willing to change their entrenched voting habits, and vote them to power, they are not entitled to voice outrage when the mainstream politicians living in their ivory towers continue to let them down.
james your thoughts are spot on!!! BNP would soon shake telford up! rather radical but great idea
Observer, James is right. The British National Party do have the courage to tackle these problems. The first thing would be to forget about all this p.c.rubbish and use common sense.
Nationwide, it is now apparent that crime, violence and anti-social behaviour has become a cancer eating away at the fabric of our lives, and that it is going to get very much worse unless the public act to change the way we are governed.
In this regard I too feel that the British National Party may be our only hope.
I’m sure there are those who will sneer and call me a racist or something like that, but those people have no answers, they might even prefer to believe that it will all go away if we pretend it’s not happening. But it won’t, and criminals take advantage of such denialism and silly sentiments, as all realistic people know full well.
Sorry James..Gary…and Mary I said NO government of any colour or party will put this right…we live in cloud cuckoo land if we think so and that includes the party you appear to support. You know its true and I know its true! Get family life right first only then will things change!
Family life comes from the kind of folkish values that James’ Party preaches on a daily basis. Politics in general is total tosh and merely serves to line the pockets of the few, but politics which comes directly from the values of what a culturally aware philosopher may call the ‘folk soul’ has weight and power behind it. It’s surprising what people will respond to when you appeal to their inner conciousness.
There’s an article on the front page of a particular party’s website today concerning the content and influence of Rap music.
Hardly the sort of thing to promote a healthy family life, and yet some people insist that the source of the article tells lies and promotes hatred and division.
Strange, that.
