Take yourself back in time, and imagine walking down this street and noticing all the differences there are with the same street today.
It is New Street, in Wellington. The shops and many of the buildings have changed.
But in one respect New Street is the same. Because today, as then, it is traffic-free.

This may be an Edwardian scene, but it hadn’t changed much by the 1950s. Yorks had some fascinating photographs of some pylons being erected, and next door was Sidolis.
Although they may have been less affluent times, there were no charity shops or cheap shops selling poor quality imported goods like today.
