A Shropshire nightclub will begin pumping a “sexy smelling scent” through its air conditioning unit this weekend to hide the smell of stale beer and sweat normally masked by cigarette smoke.
Bosses at Liquid & Diva in Shrewsbury say bad odours have become a problem since the smoking ban came into force in July and clubbers are being put off their nights out.
The Raven Meadows club, which has just undergone a £250,000 re-fit, asked more than 3,000 customers what smelled the best and found freshly cut grass and fresh coffee came out top, followed by the sea and flowers.
Luminar, which runs the nightclub, has now combined the flavours to make up the perfect sent called Hydro-Spa, and clubbers will be able to smell it for the first time at the VIP re-launch party on Friday.
For a twist on different events or seasons, club bosses are also looking into different scents for specific club nights such as the aroma of sun cream lotion for Ibiza nights or chocolate and roses for Valentines.
Pete Sherriff, general manager, said: “The introduction of Hydro-Spa will mean we will offer a full, multi-sensoral experience to our clubbers.”
The VIP re-launch on Friday will host a top Radio 1 DJ and six residents DJs, break dancers and stilt walkers.

Since the Blairite Junta has prevented normal, working men and women from doing in a few Rotheys with our lager ‘n’ lambada of a Saturday night, it’s smelt like a leper’s jockstrap in Liquid & Diva by the end of the night.
I worked for seven years in Hull, so I know what I’m talking about when I say that a trawler full of a fresh herring catch is preferable to chucking out time at L&D.

I been using scent in pussycats nightclub for the past few weeks , tuti fruit, vanila , coconut etc, which has worked quiet well…

The beautiful aroma of flatulence, sweat, curry, & kebab is a wonderful thing.
Its not that everyone in Telford smells like bigfoots balls, its a global thing. I have seen the same fragrance issues in other countries since smoking bans have been implemented.

sounds like a good idea to me, will make it all a bit more pleasant for the female visitors too! coconut is a gorgeous smell, makes you think of hols etc
