A fourth bid has been launched to turn a derelict former cafe in Shrewsbury into a new hot food takeaway and restaurant.
Developers want to build a two-storey Chinese takeaway on the site of the old Mojos cafe - now an eyesore in the centre of Abbey Foregate.
The plans are for a takeaway on the ground floor with a buffet dining area on the first floor. The previous application was for a single-storey development but planners did not think it was in keeping with the area.
A new report states: “Following further consultation with a new planning officer and the assistant conservation officer, a more radical approach has now been adopted to create a contemporary building.
“It is understood that the previous application was subject to some objection from local residents and generally the consensus of opinion was that the area did not need another takeaway.
“At present, Mojos Cafe will provide takeaway facilities and thus arguably the use is unchanged, only the type of food available.”
Agents Silk Rowson Plant say the proposal has been redesigned to take on board comments made previously by the Shrewsbury Civic Society. Residents have until September 3 to send in any comments.
