Man denies fraud claim

A Shrewsbury man has denied illegally claiming more than £24,000 in council and housing tax benefits.

David Rodney Rogers denies three charges of benefit fraud between September 2003 and February 2004.

The 57-year-old, of Wayford Close, Meole Estate, appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court.

Rogers is alleged to have claimed £24,516 in council and housing tax benefit while he was working as a sub-contractor for a property renovation company.

He will return to magistrates court on October 1 for a committal hearing. He was granted unconditional bail.
