One of the main discussions on the video desk these days is rain, writes our Video Blogger James Shaw. And rain. And rain. Oh, and floods.
Together with my new colleague Tom Moore, flash floods and raging torrents have dominated the recent talk, as well as many of the videos.
The situation was highlighted earlier this week when I took a trip down to Tenbury Wells.
This was, you understand, something of a gamble - being located on the south Shropshire border, the town is at least a one-hour drive from Ketley.
Bearing in mind that the floods had caused so much trouble a few days earlier, I wasn’t too sure whether there would be anything to film. How wrong I was.
The town itself is one of Shropshire’s hidden jewels - even though it teeters on the border of Worcestershire. The scale of devastation was, perhaps, made worse by the fact that it had spoilt such as gorgeous town.
Notably, the residents seemed determined to put the area back on the map - in the right way.
Another subject that has dominated proceedings has been sport. The pre-season programmes of both Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford have given me a great chance to get reacquainted with our local teams.
The New Meadow is, of course, a sparkling example of how football should be watched - but with one tiny downpoint (well, for me). The habit of taking lids off pop bottle has, over the last few years, become something of a rule at grounds up and down the land (I’m more of a Bovril man).
So I was perplexed to be told I couldn’t take away a pop bottle with the lid on, even to the TV gantry.
The official reason, I am told is that they could used as a weapon. Really? I’ve never noticed the danger myself, but I am sure people more qualified than me are aware of its risks - coins and lighters, or course I do know can be dangerous.
So if anyone can send me an example of a plastic pop bottle lid injuring a player/spectator, please use the form below. I think I’ll stick to my Bovril.
