Distance: Three-and-a-half miles Terrain: Easy walking on lanes and fieldpaths; nine stiles.
1. With the telephone box in the centre of Chesterton village at your back, go straight ahead at the triangular junction and walk out of the village, with Chesterton Valley Golf Club on your left.
2. At the top of the lane turn left at the T-junction, passing the entrance to the golf club, and on reaching the B4176 cross over and continue down the lane towards Worfield. The church spire can be seen on the right.
3. After about a mile and just after passing Bradeney House, cross the stile on the left and walk down an enclosed path to another stile. Cross over and follow the left-hand field boundary to a stile/gate; cross this and walk round the base of the hill to another stile in the hedge on the right.
4.
5. Follow the waymarked route over a series of stiles until emerging into an open space behind houses, and walk down the side of the last one on the left, to cross over two more stiles leading on to Stratford Lane in the village of Hilton. The hall lies a short distance to the right.
6. Turn left along the lane to its junction with the B4176; turn left, then immediately right up the lane to return to Chesterton.
7. The large mound on your right as you begin to climb is an ancient fortress known as The Walls, and can be visited by turning right onto a track opposite a footpath sign, walking behind a house to a gate, and turning right through a second gate.
