tugford.jpg1. Start at a parking area just to the south of Broncroft Castle, two miles south-east of Beambridge on the B4368 Walk back in the direction of Broncroft castle for a few yards and cross the stile on your right into a field.

2. Walk across this to a stile in the far left-hand corner and in the next field bear half-right and walk up to the stile in the top left-hand corner which leads out into a lane.

Turn left along this and follow it into the attractive village of Tugford with the church of St Catherine’s across a field on the right.

3. Having visited the church continue through the village in the direction of Stanton Long and at the top of the rise turn left through a metal gate into a field.

Walk across the ridge with Tugford down on your left and in the corner of the field cross a stile and turn right along the right-hand boundary of the next field.

4. Pass through two hedge gaps, continuing along right-hand boundaries until reaching a stile in the fence near to the corner of the last field.

Cross over and turn left along a grassy track which at the time of writing is slightly overgrown.

5. On reaching the road at the end of the track turn left back to the start, passing by Broncroft Castle — originally a 14th Century fortress which was completely restored 500 years later.
