Mum’s baby sleep aid a hit

The baa-baa blind for youngstersA mother has designed and developed a revolutionary product to help young children get to sleep - just in time for the longest day of the year.Lavinia Thompson, of Codsall, near Albrighton, has launched the baa-baa blind for frustrated parents desperate to keep the light out of bedrooms to help their tired offspring to doze off peacefully.

The idea came to Lavinia during family holidays with her first baby, when she got tired of trying to hang blankets and towels over flimsy curtains in a bid to make sure the new addition to the family could fall asleep without too much trouble.

Research reveals babies have different sleep patterns to adults. Adults spend 75 to 80 per cent of their time in deep sleep and 20 to 25 per cent in shallow sleep.

Babies spend 50 per cent of their time in shallow sleep, meaning they wake more easily.

The baa-baa blind, officially launched at the Baby Show at Birmingham’s NEC, is already a firm favourite with parents.

“The more people we speak to the more hilarious stories we hear of broken curtain poles, furniture rearranging, even taping up binbags to keep out the light,” said Lavinia. “The solution is definitely well overdue.”

Lavinia ThompsonThe blind fits over the window using suckers, giving a closer fit than conventional blinds to minimise light leaking in.

She’s invented blackout curtains? How quaint.

At least she is showing her inventive side! What a callous comment from Liz!

I think its a great idea and even thinking of getting some for my holidays, for me! As a light sleeper its sometimes tiresome waking up at first light especially when you are trying to catch up on sleep from a busy worklife.

    Well done I say!

Yes, blackout curtains are not a new idea, but ones with suckers that can be fitted to any window… I’ve never seen anything like that before! And, as a mum of two little ones who will only sleep well if it’s totally dark, I will definately by buying a couple of these for our next holiday.

A couple of those comments were just rude, yes blackout curtains are available but they don’t work as well as something like these. I have some velcro blackout blinds in both my childrens rooms but i can’t transport them so when we go away they would be up at the crack of dawn. So i think this is a great idea personally & think it will really catch on.
