Ightfield

Distance: Three-and-a-half miles.
Terrain: Easy walking on lanes and fieldpaths.

1. Start your walk at Ightfield Church, to the south-east of Whitchurch. From the car park, enter the churchyard and turn immediately right alongside the hedge until encountering a stile leading into a field.

Cross over and continue along the left-hand boundary and on to a stile at the far end of the field.

2. Walk up the right-hand boundary as far as a stile, cross over and bear half-left up the next field to a stile in the far boundary.

3. Cross this and continue past a trig point to a drive, turn right along it and cross a stile on the right into a large field. Continue along the the left-hand boundary to a gate and bear left down to a stile in the bottom right-hand corner.

Cross over and walk across another large field, aiming to the left of the cottages at the far end, where a stile leads out to a lane.

5. Turn left along this and walk towards the small settlement of Ash Parva, bearing right at the first junction and walking down to a crossroads where you will find a small pond on the right — a good place to rest before setting out on your return journey.

6. Then turn left along the lane in the direction of Ightfield for about one-and-a-half miles until reaching the village, next to a children’s play area.

7. Take the first turning on the left which leads back to the church.
