Eccleshall

Distance: 3.5 miles.
Terrain: Easy walking on lanes, tracks and fieldpaths with three stiles.

eccleshall.jpg1. The parish church, at the western end of Eccleshall High Street is the place to begin your walk.

Walk away from the village as far as a road junction. Cross over and take the enclosed footpath between the lane to Elford Heath and the old National School which is now a house.

2. Pass through a kissing gate and climb up the field to a stile to the left of trees, cross over, walk alongside the trees and cross the brow of the hill to arrive at a gate in the far boundary.

Turn left before it and walk down the boundary to a stile leading into a lane. Cross over and through a small car park into Elford Heath Common, bear left to pass to the right of a pool and exit on to a lane.

Turn left to a crossroads, turn right along Shaws Lane and continue as far as a stile on the right.

Cross over and follow the right-hand boundary to a gate leading into a lane, pass through and turn left as far as the drive to Johnson Court.

4. Turn right and continue past the lodge on the left down to a kissing gate, pass through and walk to the left of the line of trees and past a pool to a gate with views of Johnson Hall behind.

5. Bear left across the next field to a kissing gate, pass through and skirt round the base of the rise to emerge on to the A518 Newport road.

Turn left along this and walk on the welcome pavement back to Eccleshall.

6. After passing the fire station go ahead at the next crossroads to emerge at a junction with the High Street. Turn left along this to return to the start.
