Stag night jailing nightmare

Stephen MalloneA bride-to-be whose £20,000 wedding plans were left in ruins when the groom was jailed in Slovakia for swimming nude in a fountain today said she was struggling to come to terms with the ordeal.

Kerry Stokes said she was “terrified” for her fiance Stephen Mallone, pictured, and wanted him back by her side.

But Miss Stokes, who lives in Tenbury Wells with Mr Mallone, insisted she would still press ahead with her own hen night.

She said: “I miss him so much and wish he was right here by my side. It’s absolutely mind boggling, all this. I am still struggling to take it all in.

“He was just messing about by the sounds of things, it’s such a shame.

“We’re supposed to be getting married next Friday but we still don’t know if it’s going ahead or not.

“I’m in contact with his parents, Susan and Chris, who have flown out to Slovakia and they are keeping me updated.”

Mr Mallone and 13 friends went to Slovakia on May 25 for a weekend. Mr Mallone was arrested after his boozy antics and faces two months in jail. His family has appealed against the sentence.

Miss Stokes, pictured, who works for Tenbury Pharmacy, said her hen night would go ahead. She added: “There’s 22 of us going to Butlins in Minehead. I’m trying to carry on as normal.

Kerry Stokes“We have planned a huge wedding, it’s extremely big. There are 80 guests coming in the day to the ceremony at Tenbury Church and 250 in the evening.”

She added: “Whatever happens, we’ll tie the knot some time. We know the truth and I’m just hoping the authorities in Slovakia see sense.”

A diplomatic deal is now being sought by the British authorities, who are desperately trying to fly Stephen home in time for his big day.

I live in Prague and visit Slovakia on a regular basis. The local population in both the Czech and Slovak Republics are becoming tired and fed up with stag weekends that don’t know how to behave when they are away. Although the purnishment does seem excessive I would like to assure the bride to be that she has no need to be terrified for Mr. Mallone, Slovak quisine is on the most part extremley satisfying.

    Serves him right!
It is almost certainly an offence of public indecency in this country, so why assume such behaviour is acceptable on the European mainland?

serves the drunken fool right!! hardly showing brits abroad in the best light was he?

If only our courts would dish out such sentences for drunken anti-social behaviour, perhaps this country would be a more attractive place to visit?

Being drunk, being on a stag night or being foreign is not an excuse for breaking the laws of any country.

At the end of the day, if you commit a crime you will be punished. Just because somebody is getting married does not mean they should believe themselves to be above the law!

Idiots like him give Brits abroad a bad reputation.
When you go to a foreign country you abide by their laws.
Two months in jail should sober him up. He should consider himself lucky. There are other countries where he would have been flogged for his antics.
Pity the Uk didn’t have harsher sentences to deal with the lawless society we live in.

Two months in a T.B.infested gaol, where he will be a target for the bullies,is very harsh. He only took a dip,not an act of violence.I am a pensioner with a strong sense of justice and not a young hooligan.I am appalled by the comments here,a total lack of compassion or sympathy, have you become so desensitized.

MY IN-lAWS ARE POLISH AND LIVE IN POLAND AS DO MY WIFE’S COUSINS. I AM SURE THE POLES HAVE A GREATER SENSE OF HUMOUR. THEY WOULD CERTAINLY SEE THE LIGHTER SIDE TO THIS AND THE SENTENCE IS TOO HARSH IN MY OPINION.

I thought good old tony would have
had waved his magic wand by now.
After all that is usually the case
when a Brittish citizen breaks the laws of another country.

When you visit another country you have to abide by their rules the same way we expect visiters from other countries to abide by ours.

If he did the crime, he should do the time. 2 months does seem a little harsh but if that’s the law then tough luck.

People who go to other countries with no interest in or respect for local people or their culture and just get as drunk as possible on cheap beer deserve no sympathy if they break the law.

What an absolute idiot, I hope that they throw away the key. I can’t believe that Miss Stokes still wants to marry this fool. I’d write off the £20,000 and walk away i’m sure it’s going to be less than the inevitable divorce will cost.
