So another red letter day for Channel 4, writes news blogger David Burrows. Or Channel Furore as it is now changing its name to. Possibly.
First causing a stink over its Diana documentary, which was then watched by fewer people than tuned in for The Apprentice and also attracted a smaller audience than Grand Designs, which is usually shown at that time.
Then ANOTHER race row in the Big Bother, sorry, Big Brother, house.
Hopefully the former is evidence that we as a nation are finally getting tired of the rehashed and replayed “evidence” about the tragic events in Paris. It was a terrible event. It’s not time to move on…that was about five years ago. Now it’s really time to just let it go.
One can also only hope that the saying “there’s no such thing as bad publicity” turns out to be as much nonsense as other old wives sayings like the one about swallowing chewing gum (or apples for that matter - parents can be mean, can’t they?) and people give Big Brother the Big E.
My fingers are firmly crossed that people now think: “Actually, what the flip am I doing with my life. Perhaps I’ll switch of my television set, go out and do something less boring instead,” (sorry, that’s Why Don’t You? isn’t it? But you get the point).
The first Big Brother was an interesting social experiment (and kept us going for weeks thanks to Craig Phillips) but since then it’s become shock TV for the sake of shock TV.
TV announcers are always telling me to press the red button. My red button’s an off switch. I think I will.

I dnt see why Channel 4 are getting so much stick - its always been a channel which will push the boundaries and sometimes there can be really good documentary’s on. I think the hoo-haa over the Diana programme is because this nation refuses to get over it and carry on - yes she was a hige icon for some people but if her boys can move on with their lives, why cant they.
With regards to Big Brother, its more a case of they are dammned if they do and dammned if they dont, so they may aswell do!
So if Big Brother is such a turn off, and you are suggesting to people get a life and don’t watch it, why not lead by example and stop reporting on it?
Nobody ever took YEAR OF THE SEX OLYMPICS by Nigel Kneale seriously enough in the 1960’s. If they had then BB would have never happened !!!
Anybody wanting to know about the above play can find info about it on the website searches.
If BB is popular - it says more about those who watch it than anything to do with Ch 4 or the contestants !!!
Don’t give C4 the time of day .Everybody is falling straight into their manipulative little hands and discussing the in’s and out’s of this so called tv program.
Get a life , before its too late.
Too right JK.
Also give Nigel Kneale a posthumous medal for highlighting the dangers 30 yrs before they all happened !!!!
But there is so much more to Channel 4 than just BB - its just that they are getting more stick than usual at this time of the year because of the programme.
Dont forget, C4 shows documentaries and some of the series have been very interesting indeed - Cutting edge for example………stay curious!
