Decision due over housing

Plans for six affordable homes in a village near Bridgnorth are facing refusal, despite a lack of cheaper housing in the area.

The plan for houses in Chorley will go before district councillors tonight.

The three semi-detached pairs of properties have received 15 objections. Planning officers recommend the scheme is rejected.

Chorley is not identified in the Local Plan as a suitable settlement for affordable housing, but nearby Stottesdon is. The applicants say there is no suitable land in the village, which is why they are looking at Chorley.

Objectors state a lack of services, poor transport routes and a lack of demand for the homes in Chorley among the reasons for not wanting the dwellings.

The is the second time the applicants have submitted plans for this site.

In a report to members, planning officer Richard Fortune said the applicants “state that sites surrounding the Stottesdon settlement boundary have been examined and it has been established they are either inaccessible, unavailable or unviable.”
