Pioneering centre to open

artists-imp-home-hq.jpgShropshire’s home-based entrepreneurs will be able to work, network, sell, relax - and even cook - all in one luxurious new retail and business centre in Shrewsbury.

Shropshire Enterprise Partnership will officially open the first retail and business centre of its kind in the country this Friday in Roushill.

The commercial venue has been specially designed to cater for the business needs of home-based entrepreneurs and mobile workers from Shropshire’s rural areas.

The new centre is designed to complement Home HQ: Shropshire, the initiative by SEP and the Shropshire Star for homeworkers in the county.

The scheme, launched on April 10, has so far been a massive success with around 200 businesses having already signed up.

SEP project manager Fay Easton said: “Inspired by the entrepreneurs of Shropshire and created by the county’s premier economic regeneration company, Enterprise HQ is supported by Advantage West Midlands through the Rural Regeneration Zone.

The provision of this new facility forms part of the three-year Enterprise local programme to support and develop the dynamic rural home enterprise market.

“Although there are similar outlets in Canada and Australia, Shropshire is the first European area to respond to the changing modes of business that have created a prolific 21st-Century cottage industry.

“The launch on Friday triggers a series of open days for HomeHQ entrepreneurs, local traders, council representatives, leading county businesses and national banks and organisations.

“BT and Hatchers Solicitors have jointly sponsored the opening launch event which will bring together the partners of this exciting new venture to see Peter Pawsey, the chairman of the Rural Regeneration Zone, formally announce the arrival of Enterprise HQ in the UK.

“The official launch follows tonight’s ribbon cutting ceremony by Councillor Roger Evans, Mayor of Shrewsbury, at a special sneak preview for directors of Shropshire Enterprise Partnership and the Shropshire Star.

Fay believes the choice of Shropshire as location for a new type of enterprise centre could not be more appropriate.

“Shropshire was the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Some 250 years later, still fuelled by the power of its enterprising people and now armed with the knowledge that homeworking is predicted to create the greatest major change to working practices since industrialisation, this county will be seen as an economic pioneer in establishing support and development systems for new-economy businesses.

“The growth of home-based businesses will not only strengthen and grow the local economy but will contribute environmental savings and neighbourhood renewals alongside reductions in traffic congestion on our rural roads.

“Based in the centre of Shrewsbury, Enterprise HQ will serve the rapidly increasing rural catchment of home-based entrepreneurs and business operators on the move.”
