The last competitive game at Shrewsbury Town’s Gay Meadow will take place tomorrow night.
The final of the Shropshire Women’s Challenge Cup will take place at the ground when the club’s ladies team takes on Wrockwardine Wood Jacs.
Neil Sambrook, from Shropshire FA, said being the final competitive game at the Gay Meadow would give some added spice to the game.
He said Shropshire FA had held several of its finals at the ground following the culmination of Shrewsbury Town’s play-off campaign.
He said: “We’ve got one more game, the Shropshire Women’s Challenge Cup Final.
“Normally they would all have been done and dusted by now, but with Shrewsbury Town’s play-off involvement a few have had to be held off until later than normal.
“They’ve come thick and fast in the past few weeks, but tomorrow will be the last ever competitive game at the Gay Meadow.
“Traditionally the women’s final is always a good game, and so it would be nice to have another one like that to see off the Gay Meadow.”
Mr Sambrook said players from several county sides involved in finals at the ground had been honoured to be among the last to take to the hallowed turf.
“There has been the extra incentive this year, not just to get to the final and win but to play at the Gay Meadow for the last time.
“There will now be a new incentive next year to be among the first teams to play in a final at the New Meadow.”
Mr Sambrook said Shropshire FA would move its end-of-season finals to the New Meadow from next season, when Shrewsbury Town move into the £15million stadium on Oteley Road.
Preparations for the club’s move to the new stadium will reach their final stages in the next few weeks.
Bulldozers are expected to move on to the Gay Meadow site after the move to the New Meadow is complete.
The ground will be flattened and replaced by a £60 million housing development of 156 new homes.
