Appeal setback over eviction

Four Shropshire families who face being evicted from their homes have less than 11 months to move out - after their appeal against enforcement papers was not submitted on time.

The residents of the four bungalows at Highley Park Homes, near Bridgnorth, were given 12 months to leave in April. An appeal to the planning decision was submitted last week.

But a separate appeal against the enforcement notices saying they had to leave within 12 months, was not submitted on time and will not count.

John and Annie Brough, who live in one of the homes, said they cannot believe the documents, which have to be done by the site owners, were not submitted on time.

Bridgnorth District Council turned down an application for the stationing of the residential caravans in February because they lay on the wrong side of the planning boundary.

Some of the residents have invested life savings of up to £180,000 each into their retirement homes.

Mrs Brough said the appeal against the enforcement papers had to be submitted by the site owners by May 18, but they were not sent in time.

She said: “The appeal has gone in against the planning decision but appeal against the enforcement papers was not sent in time.

“We don’t know why it wasn’t sent sooner, but because an appeal hasn’t been submitted the 12-month clock is ticking.

“If it had been, the 12-months countdown would have stopped. It would have started again after the appeal, if it was refused again.

“If the appeal against the planning decision is refused again, by the time we get everything sorted out we might only have a few months left to find somewhere else.

“We are still where we were and it just keeps rolling on. We will just have to wait now.”

Site owner Mike Loveridge was unavailable today, but has said he can not comment on proceedings until the appeal was completed.
