Drivers face a month of chaos

roadworks2.jpgMotorists are set for more traffic chaos in Oswestry as work being carried out on Gobowen Road is to continue until the end of June.

Enterprise is currently working on this stretch of road on behalf of Severn Trent Water to renew the water main to the town.

All works on site will however, be closed up today for the bank holiday weekend.

A spokeswoman for Shropshire County Council said: “Works will recommence with the use of traffic lights on Tuesday until June 29.

“The works will progress along Gobowen Road at its junction with Coppice Drive along Whittington Road to a point 50m east of Unicorn Road.

“Coppice Drive will be closed from Tuesday for seven days.”

She added: “The works in question will be carried out in sections and the traffic lights will be operated manually at peak times to help alleviate congestion.”

Parking could also be prohibited for one day a week on an Oswestry street if given the go-ahead. Oswestry Town Council is to write to Shropshire County Council and request that parking regulations are reduced on a Wednesday in Chapel Street.

It comes after a large coach company in Manchester said they were extremely eager to regularly bring groups to the market.

At a meeting of the Oswestry Town Council Markets and Car Parks Committee meeting yesterday, councillors heard the company sought a closer drop-off point than the coach park, as they felt the distance would be a problem for their elderly customers.

They suggested Castle View, as drivers felt the area was flat and provided a turning area for the coach.

has the said piece of road not already been dug up once this year? forward planning and communication between companies would surely have alleviated this
problem…wot about park and ride as a temporary measure?

park and ride is surely to be considered…i can walk to work faster than i can drive it….
