Colleagues from the NU Nursery in Shrewsbury prepare for today's Race for Life in TelfordWomen from across Shropshire were on their marks today, ready to take part in a fundraising Race for Life at Telford Town Park. This year, Cancer Research UK was due to hold two races in Telford and the starting pistol will fire again at Telford Town Park tomorrow at 11am.

The women taking part in the 5km race today were cheered on by a group of male cheerleaders.

Nivea, associate sponsor of the Race for Life for the fifth year running, organised for the group to tour 100 Race for Life events across the UK as part of its Give a Big Hand campaign. The campaign aims to raise an additional £27,000 for Cancer Research UK this year.

Since it started in 1994, Race for Life has grown to become the UK’s biggest women-only fundraising event. So far, more than two million women of all ages have run, walked or jogged to raise more than £140 million in sponsorship for the charity.

This year organisers hope to raise £60 million.
