Pubs and bars are preparing for a make-or-break night which could leave Shrewsbury Town fans toasting a Wembley final or crying into their pints.
Venues across the town will be screening Town’s crunch play-off semi-final second leg against MK Dons which will be shown live on Sky Sports.
The two teams drew 0-0 in the first leg of the semi-final clash at Gay Meadow on Monday.
Pub bosses have said they are expecting bumper crowds for the game tomorrow night, which would see Shrewsbury line up at the new Wembley stadium if they win.
With Shrewsbury’s allocation of tickets for the crunch clash in Milton Keynes sold-out, fans are expected to pack out town centre pubs to watch the nail-biting fixture at 7.45pm.
Tony Haycock, landlord of The Bricklayers Arms, in Abbey Foregate, said he was confident of a good turnout for the game.
He said: “This is only my third week here, but we get a lot of Shrewsbury fans in on match day so I’m sure there will be plenty of people in on Friday.
“I’ve even got a bet on that Shrewsbury will win 2-0, so I really hope they do now.”
Passions will be running high at The Severn Stars, in Longden Coleham, which will also be showing the big match live.
Landlady Sheila Pengilly said: “We’ve had to order in some extra lager and I’m sure we’ll get plenty in for the game.
“We will have it on the big screen and will have plenty of staff on serving, so it would be brilliant if they could win it now. We get a lot of fans in here because we are close to the ground, so I’m sure we’ll be packed for the game.”
Scores of Shrewsbury supporters are expected to pack out other pubs with many showing the game live.
Among the pubs set to screen the game will be The Plough, in Castle Foregate, The Dunn Cow, in Abbey Foregate and The Crown, in Longden Coleham.
The Severn Apprentice, in Coton Hill, and The Beaten Track, in Old Potts Way, will also become meccas for Town fans not lucky enough to be travelling to MK Don’s home at the National Hockey Stadium.
The play-off semi-final second leg will be shown on Sky Sports 1 via the red button.
