Telford is ideally placed to become the West Midlands’ top growth area for new homes, developers have claimed.
They believe it has more than enough room - with over a third of the borough being green space - to take at least 30,000 homes over the next decade.
The points were made today at the start of a four-week public inquiry into Telford & Wrekin Council’s blueprint for development until 2021.
Independent inspectors were today hearing evidence from landowners, developers and individuals about house provision.
There is widespread concern over calls by the Government for many thousands of new homes to be built
But today’s first session at Meeting Point House, in Telford Town Centre, heard John Acres, for Redrow Homes, argue that Telford should “take the strain” off other areas by going for fast housing growth.
The hearing continues.

They have failed to cover two important points here.
1.One person sat around the table said how can they develop policies when they do not include any public consultation.
2.Whilst the region has a target of house build, any shortfall in the regions housing target will be made up by building in Telford. They consider this a natural move as Telford has 38% Green Space.
Whilst we all want Telford to improve, I believe we would all prefer the chance to have our say in how Telford is shaped.
This enquiry is concentrating on Telford and not the outlying areas, although I do belive that the green areas will be used to extend Telford and we will also eventually see new district centres appearing.

Why does Telford have to lose all of its green space? One of the good things about Telford is having the countryside on your doorstep. Surely this will just cause more congestion and pollution in the area.
Odd because I never hear from anybody I chat to that there is a great need for more houses !!
There is no real local demand for this many new homes.
They’ll be built to accommodate the hundreds of thousands fleeing our wonderful ‘enriched’ cities.
The people of Telford allready suffer the consequences of over crowding, strain on the infrastucture, environmental damage and loss of green space. It is only the the developers who profit. When did the people of Telford mandate the borough councils’indulgent and grandiose plans for this sprawling ‘city’?
