Take the challenge

But what about driving for fun and a good cause. Well girls now you can and you take on the boys at their own game with a few extra big toys.

Ladies from around the region are invited to sign up for the Ladies Driving Challenge where they can try their hand at driving 60-foot lorries, JCBs, tractors and fire engines and help raise money for Marie Curie Nurses.

Many other unusual vehicles will also be on offer at the event on September 23, this year being held at RAF Cosford.

Vehicles are kindly provided by the military, fire service and companies, including Newport haulage firm Freightroute.

Hundreds took part in the annual spectacular last year when the event was held at RAF Shawbury.

About 200 women from across the region came to drive scores of vehicles on offer. For several years it has raised tens of thousands of pounds for the service in Shropshire and Mid Wales.

Michelle McQuillin, charity spokeswoman and fundraising co-ordinator, said it was always a good day and she again hopes to offer a great range of vehicles.

Women wishing to take part are asked to raise sponsorship or donations.

Marie Curie Nurses provide high quality nursing care for free, making it possible for terminally ill patients to stay at home, rather then go into hospital.

To take part in the day contact Mrs McQuillin on (01352) 754596.
