Lunching ladies mean business

Swanky Events & Occasions members celebrateNetworking - it’s the new buzzword. And we women do it really well in Shropshire.

Those in the know and with an eye on success are only too aware that ladies who lunch now mean business. And it’s not just lunching which can create a host of new and worthwhile contacts and customers.

A very Swanky Affair held in Shrewsbury proved that when women get together they really create a stir and for all the right reasons.

The members of the Swanky Events and Occasions group showcased their unique range of products - all of which have something to do with celebrations and parties - at the Darwin Shopping Centre.

From venues and catering to dresses, party bags, entertainment and flowers, there was plenty to choose from to make that special event go with a swing.

But bringing it under one roof lived up to that old saying: united we stand.

The catwalk shows proved a big crowd pleaser, especially the cute children who modelled the latest range of clothes from Captain Tortue, a leading brand of children’s clothes.

Claire Priest displayed her new range of clothes for the first time at the event. Her company, Blessd, designs and produces clothes for those women who are ‘blessed’ with an hourglass figure.

Most of the members of Swanky Events & Occasions have benefited from business start-up advice and support from WiRE (Women in Rural Enterprise).

Through attending events organised by them, such as the ‘Opening Doors’ project which is run as part of the Regional Women’s Enterprise Unit (RWEU), the women came to the conclusion that, as a group, they all worked within the same arena and could therefore present themselves as a complete package to their clients.

One such member is Julieann Bird, owner of JulieAnn Beads (www.julieannbeads.co.uk). ‘A Swanky Affair’ provided her with the perfect opportunity to display the range of handmade glass bead and gemstone jewellery that she makes.

She says: “This was a great show for me. Many of my existing customers came along to see my new ranges and I sold a lot of pieces to new customers. It was also great to see my jewellery being modelled at the Blessd show.”
