Buildings destroyed by blazes

Two buildings have been destroyed in separate fires. Fire broke out at a commercial garage in Pentre, near Chirk, shortly before midnight.

At its height, five crews were at the scene. And the fire was so severe, part of the building’s roof collapsed

Firefighters from Chirk, Llangollen and three crews from Wrexham turned out to the blaze, which was close to a tyre depot in Pentre.

It took more than three hours to bring it under control and firefighters remained at the scene all night. A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said no-one was injured.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way this morning,” she said.

“The roof of the garage partially collapsed.”

Crews from Chirk and Llangollen also attended a fire in a chalet. They were called to the fire, in the grounds of Ystrad Hall, Llangollen, at 12.45am yesterday.

The chalet was destroyed and a fire service spokeswoman said an investigation had revealed the fire was started deliberately.

“The chalet was unoccupied at the time of the fire,” said the spokeswoman. “It was used as a dwelling but had been unoccupied for the last month.”
