They decided to open the house to the public from Christmas for the first time in 150 years. More than 600 visitors have done the tour and emerged smiling. Expect to be greeted at the pillared entrance porch by an amiable old sheepdog called Rosie, then whip off your shoes and prepare for a dramatic shift in time.
