Converted Shrewsbury Town centre-back Kelvin Langmead has capped a remarkable season by winning a clean sweep of gongs at the club’s annual player of the season awards.
Langmead started the season as a striker, finding himself in and out of boss Gary Peters’ starting line-up.
But his year, and probably his career, has been transformed by the manager’s decision to try him in defence - with spectacular results.
The 22-year-old won player of the year awards from the Official Supporters’ Club, the shrewsTRUST, the Away Travel Club and the Junior Blues at last night’s ceremony at Gay Meadow.
“He’s been good all through the season and, on top of that, he’s been earning his position,” said Peters.
“He’s probably the biggest novice you’d ever put into a back four as he’s not come through youth football learning the job.
“He’d never played there before this season, and it’s unbelievable how well he’s done considering the situation I put him in.
“Without any shadow of a doubt it was a good decision by the fans to name him player of the year and he deserves it.”
