Youths on roof with cannabis

Two youths ran across a town centre roof in Leominster with a large box of cannabis plants, police said today.

Youths believed to be in their teens were spotted by residents at about 5pm yesterday. They were above an address in West Street and were apparently holding a large box filled with plants.

Police later discovered cannabis worth thousands of pounds at the same address. The youths escaped the scene.

Police spokesman Neil Tipton said: “The incident started when we received a call to say two individuals were acting in a suspicious manner on a roof in West Street. They had run off by the time officers arrived.

“Officers went on to the roof and found a box full of what turned out to be cannabis plants. The plants were in a box that was perched on a chimney pot. We were able to recover the box, with the help of the fire brigade.

“We made further investigations and found a room full of cannabis plants, as well as growing equipment.”

One eye-witness, who asked not to be named, said: “There were two teenagers, who looked to be around 15, on the roof of an address in West Street. At one point, they were balancing the box on a chimney.”

It is understood police are focusing their inquiries on a rented property in the town centre. Anyone with information can contact police on 08457 444888.
