Sam LoveittA courageous Shropshire seven-year-old who is recovering from a potentially deadly strain of meningitis, is all set to return to school tomorrow.

Sam Loveitt, pictured, of Bridgnorth Road, Much Wenlock, is “excited” about joining his friends at school for the first time since he was struck down with the illness in November. The brave youngster will have the support of his twin brother Matthew on his first day back.

Members of the Much Wenlock branch of the Order of the Buffaloes led a fundraising appeal after hearing about Sam’s plight.

Last month, organisers handed over more than £5,000 to go towards Sam’s future care, which will include buying a specially-designed wheelchair for him to use at school.

Sam’s aunt Louise Howes said everything appeared to be ready for his return to Much Wenlock Primary School.

She said: “At the moment he is going back tomorrow although we really have to wait until he actually goes before we can say it is definitely happening.

“Sam seems to be really looking forward to it and it will be good for him.

“I think he will find it hard though at times because it will be different for him now. The school have been great and they have got somebody to help with his learning.”

Sam lost his right foot, his lower left leg and his left hand two days before his seventh birthday.

He was left handed so he will now have to be taught to write with his right hand.

Sam’s family have been overwhelmed by the support given to them by people across the county.

They are currently waiting for Bridgnorth District Council to carry out alterations to their home in order to help Sam be more independent. These include a kitchen extension, a ramp in the front garden and a disabled car parking space.
