Rose Cottage a blooming beauty

sh27rcot-3.jpgThe home of Robert and Lesley Davis in Childs Ercall, near Market Drayton, is a picture-perfect example of many people’s idea of what an ideal country home would be.

Rose Cottage is not only a beautiful and character-packed home set in a lovely village, but it is spacious and charming, having been renovated by the Davises to the very highest of standards.

Dating back to 1841, it was originally the home of the chauffeur and gardener of nearby Ercall Hall.

Having been extended at some point in the past, when the Davises bought it eight years ago it was in need of updating.

The amount of time and expense Robert and Lesley have put into it is impressive, and today it simply cannot be faulted, both inside and out.

As the Davises are now relocating to be nearer their holiday home, they have put Rose Cottage up for sale through Berriman Eaton of Tettenhall for around £675,000. The new owners will definitely be getting a lot for their money.

This beautiful home has a tile-hung porch, reception hall, cloakroom, snug, drawing room, dining room, an exquisite kitchen by Dayrooms of Tettenhall with fitted appliances, landing, principal bedroom suite with shower room, guest bedroom suite with large wardrobe and a shower room, two further bedrooms and a luxurious bathroom.

sh27rcot-7.jpgOutside there are easily maintained gardens, a detached double garage block with extensive roof storage and rear utility room area, secondary garaging (attached to the house) with double garage, workshop area and first floor providing yet more storage space, plus a utility room.

The gardens wrap around the property. They are mainly laid to lawn with mature and stocked borders providing a wonderful backdrop to the house with large rockery gardens, flowering plants, roses, and white- and pink-flowering cherry trees.

The house itself is mainly surrounded by countryside, having views over fields holding sheep and horses.

There is planning permission for conversion of the detached garage block into a self-contained annexe. The permission is in perpetuity and provides for a two bedroomed annexe with bathroom, lounge, kitchen and dining area.

sh27rcot-2.jpgRobert Davis said: “The cottage has been completed refurbished and brought up to the 21st century. It was very dated. The people who lived in it before were wonderful gardeners and were very much involved in the community.”

The Davises have added a new front door, the smart gravel drive and detached garage block, and replaced the kitchen and bathrooms. Robert said: “All the rooms have been gutted and refurbished; we have also had new windows installed.”

The work was done by a combination of builders and Robert himself. It also included having all the original beams sand-blasted.

The Davises then went on to beautifully decorate and furnish their cottage home.

Robert said: “We have been very happy here and we will be sad to leave. I don’t think we will be able to find anything that is as tranquil and peaceful as this. We would love to pick it up and move it.”

The front door opens to the spacious entrance hall which has feature beams and a turned staircase immediately ahead. A door to the left opens the downstairs cloakroom while another door along opens to the snug.

sh27rcot-4.jpgAs well as being a charming, cosy snug, this room could make an ideal home office, although of course spare space in the attached and detached garage blocks could also accommodate this.

Walking off towards the right of the entrance hall leads you towards the large drawing room. To the right of the entrance hall you enter the smart dining room and then into the kitchen. Doors lead off to the rear gardens from the kitchen, dining room and drawing room.

Upstairs the bedrooms are well spaced out, connected by a long landing. More views of the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed from the first floor. Whoever buys Rose Cottage will be getting a true gem of a home.
