Sunshine to stay for summer

Great weather is set to continue in Shropshire this week - and could be just the start of a record-breaking hot summer, say forecasters.

High temperatures this week could even reach 22C (72F), beating the Bank Holiday high of 18C (64F), according to Shropshire Star weatherman John Warner.

He said today’s cloud would soon make way for glorious days between tomorrow and Saturday.

“After that the high temperatures could set off a few thundery showers, but it will stay mostly warm and sunny,” he said.

Last year temperatures did not reach 18C (64F) until the end of April while the average at this time of year is just 12C (54F).

“The high pressure which started over the Easter holiday has retreated a bit but is coming back in before going towards Scandinavia, and drawing in hot air from the continent.”

Mr Warner added that the county would continue to get its fair share of sun and heat during the rest of the spring and the summer.
