The first passengers today enjoyed a sun-soaked trip down the River Severn, as Shrewsbury’s new river boat set sail for its maiden voyage.
An official Champagne launch is planned for the Sabrina in the near future, but today more than a dozen people boarded the cruiser at Victoria Quay for the first leisurely 30-minute sight-seeing trip.
The boat has been given a £15,000 refurbishment. Work included improvements to the seating, toilets and bar.
Sabrina, run by Chester Boats, arrived at the Frankwell Car Park in February. The passenger boat will run services on the River Severn as part of a bid to boost tourism in the county town.
And passengers gave her the thumbs up as she launched the Easter Holidays in style.
Eileen Wharton, from Shrewsbury, and her grandson Loris, 12, were among those to first sample the delights of the new boat.
“I think it’s wonderful to see a boat cruising down the river like this and it’s certainly a welcome addition to Shrewsbury,” she said.
Brian Clarke, from Chester Boats, said he was pleased with the first trip and the reaction from passengers.
