The money came from collections and a donation from the Ladies’ Fellowship, which totalled £180, and a £20 from Suzanne’s Hair Fashions in Bank Road, Dawley.
Church member, Sam Deakin, 14, was “treasurer” for the church’s fundraising for the appeal in March, helped by his sister Annabelle, eight, who is not a member but goes to the Sunday School.
Meanwhile, Wem Tea Dance Group is extending an invitation to join it in a tea dance to raise cash for the appeal.
The group holds the dances at Wem Sports and Social Club on the second Tuesday of every month and the April 10 dance will be in aid of the appeal.
Ron Godfrey said that they were a friendly group and added: “We do mostly sequence dancing, with the odd ballroom dance.
“The reason it’s called a tea dance is that years ago it was usual to serve refreshments at the interval.
“We have tables around the room and always serve tea and cakes.”
Admission to the dance, which is from 2pm to 4.30pm, is £1.50.
The Shropshire Star’s Flying Doctor Appeal aims to raise £70,000 to fund a Flying Doctor to join the crew of the Shropshire-based air ambulance, raising its on-board medical skills and capabilities to new heights.
A Flying Doctor can perform procedures that the helicopter’s paramedics cannot do, and this could make the difference between life and death in emergencies.
The air ambulance based at RAF Cosford relies entirely on public generosity, but this is a targeted appeal on top of the normal fundraising, and cash raised for our appeal should be directed to our appeals office, the address of which is on the donations form.
