Shropshire paralympian Debbie Brennan was getting married at Wellington Register Office today.
The 28-year-old was due to tie the knot with Blake Johnson, who she met while out training in Telford Town Park.
Debbie, who has medals from the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Olympics, met the 24-year-old, who is a soldier, about six years ago.
She recalled: “I was out training and he was sat on one of the benches in the town park.
“His bike was in the path, slightly in my way and he started talking to me every time I went past.
“He joined me for a couple of laps. That was back in 2001,” she said.
The couple will be spending their honeymoon in Ironbridge before a move to Germany where Blake is currently with the Royal Engineers.
Blake proposed to Debbie about a year ago.
They were due to hold their wedding reception at the Nedge Social Club.
The wheelchair athlete is planning to compete in the London Marathon this year and said she would be concentrating on road racing in the future rather than the track.
She won a gold and bronze in Sydney and a silver and bronze in Athens.
Debbie said she was not planning to compete in the Beijing Olympics but was thinking about taking part in the marathon when the games come to London in 2012.
