Mother’s call to help son

mchugh2.jpgThe mother of a boy who was given no hope of survival when he was born is calling on Shropshire and Mid Wales people to help her raise much-needed funds.

Nine-year-old Daniel McHugh of Penybont, near Oswestry, has Pseudotrisomey Patau Syndrome - a chromosome abnormality effecting his physical and mental ability.

He was given no hope in the early days and his progress continues to baffle doctors.

Daniel’s mum, Lesley, now works full time running the Daniel’s Trust Fund, which has raised more than £14,000 since its launch in 2001.

She said: “Daniel is the only child in the world with this specific condition. No other one has been traced to date. Doctors said before and after Daniel was born that he would not survive but he did and despite not being able to walk or talk without help, he is here today.”

She said the aim of the trust fund was to raise money to buy equipment for Daniel.

“I am also hoping to take Daniel to Florida to swim with dolphins. We have had to put the trip back for two years as he has been unwell. Last year Daniel visited Santa in Lapland - it was the first time he had been on a plane and he loved it.”

Mrs McHugh is holding a barn sale on April 8 and April 9 to raise money to fund an outdoor spa for Daniel as he loves to spend time in the water. The sale will start at 11am at The Stores, Penybont, near Oswestry.
