Blaze at unit laundry room

Firefighters from Hodnet and Market Drayton were called to the scene.

Town station officer Mick Howe said: “It was accidental. They have commercial driers in there. When they bring out the clothes and sheets they’re very hot and they put them in metal tubs.

“They have heated up and the clothes and linen has combusted.”

Mr Howe said there was some damage to a door, the clothes and linen.

The inmates are in a separate area of the YOI and were unaffected by the blaze.
